What if I want to water ski? And other questions’
Elsie Gallery,
Malmsbury, Australia
December 2008

‘What if I want to water ski? And other questions’
held at Elsie Gallery in
Malmsbury, Victoria, in December 2008, was the first public outcome of the project ‘ReDressing the Veil’. This exhibition was launched as a preview and included a selection of photographic portraits of Muslim women in Cairns, Mareeba, Penang and Singapore and also the first in a series of handmade books. The book invited audience participation by giving viewers the opportunity to compose a question that they may hypothetically wish to ask a Muslim woman who wears hijab/headscarf. The questions written in the book were subsequently used and answered by audience in the second presentation of work from the project in the Jakarta Biennale 2009.
